The Challenge
The mobile wellness market is one of the most saturated in the world. "Aura" needed to launch an app that wasn't just another meditation timer or breathing guide. It had to be deeply personalized, non-intrusive, and genuinely calming to use.
The Solution
We started with extensive user research. The key insight we found was that users were actually stressed out by their "calm" apps, which were filled with gamification, "streak" guilt, and constant notifications.
Based on this, I designed a "calm-first" UI. I focused on generative, non-looping audio soundscapes, a warm and accessible color palette, and an onboarding flow that was about goals, not guilt. I built and tested high-fidelity prototypes for every core flow, ensuring the entire experience felt effortless and non-judgmental.
The Outcome
The focus on a truly user-centric, non-intrusive experience paid off immediately. The app:
Achieved a 4.9-star rating in the App Store within three months of launch.
Was featured by Apple as "App of the Day" for its intuitive and beautiful design.
Retained 40% more users after 30 days than the industry average, proving the "calm-first" approach was what users were missing.
